Symposium for Education Researchers: Innovations in Education Neuroscience
Date and Time
Session Title: Innovations in Education Neuroscience
Session Abstract: Neuroscience research is increasingly coming to inform and constrain the study of educationally relevant problems. A new generation of interdisciplinary scholars is emerging, whose work integrates educational/developmental and neuroscientific evidence. This symposium will showcase high quality and innovative research programs, with the dual purpose of (1) demonstrating the value of connecting education to neuroscience; and (2) exploring the future of interdisciplinary approaches by considering intellectual, pragmatic, and ethical concerns. Speakers address issues in bilingualism, socioeconomic disparity, reading acquisition, social emotions, intelligence, implicit bias, and motivation. Discussion will address how neuroscience contributes to an understanding of these issues beyond behavioral evidence; what the field could not have learned without neuroscientific evidence; and how future directions in neuroscience can be most informative.
