H860 Reading Difficulties

This course provides a conceptual and theoretical foundation for understanding task demands of reading text, and the ways in which readers may struggle in acquiring and developing these skills. Reading difficulties will be understood in the context of developmental, socio-cultural, cross-linguistic, and cognitive neuroscience perspectives. Contemporary remediation and compensatory approaches will be reviewed.

Prerequisite: Background in language and reading development. Required for Ed.M. students in the Language and Literacy Program pursuing licensure as a reading specialist teacher.
